This past weekend was a lot to handle. The eruption of La Soufrière has turned St Vincent upside down, and three days later we are still dealing with ashfall there and here in Barbados from the active volcano.
Flights, work, life has come to a virtual standstill as we all take time to clean up intermittently to reduce ash build-up while staying indoors as much as possible to avoid excessive inhalation of the ash particles.
For those of us with respiratory illnesses, this is a major concern. I have been cleaning my plants every morning but by afternoon they are caked in ash again. It feels like a losing battle, but this is a minor inconvenience.
I pray for the safety of those in St. Vincent. With the recent reports of pyroclastic flows, some may not have homes to return to when this is all over. When that will be no one knows. Could be days, weeks or even months, but as long as we have life we can start again.
