Push up Progress

My personal goal for October was to be able to complete one full push up.

I did not. I did however manage three half pushups courtesy of a YouTube video titled “Anyone can do a pushup”, video linked below.

Now I am sure for most being able to one push sounds simple enough, but in all honesty, I have never been able to do it. Not even “girl” pushups. Which is funny considering how fit I was in my late teens and early twenties.

However I am in my mid 30s now, and 50 plus pounds heavier.

Also, in addition to challenging myself to be a bit more active I joined Black Women Losing Weight Water Challenge. This involved drinking at least 64 Oz daily for 21 days. Difficult, but eye opening. Why? Since most of my work is done in an office now instead of outdoors, I didn’t realize how much less water I have been drinking. It seems air conditioning makes it difficult to tell when one is thirsty.

I learned a lot in the month of October, and I still have a quite a bit more of learning to do this month. In addition to working towards my push up goal, I have decided to add 5 minutes of jump rope at least three days a week, or failing that, ten minutes of brisk walking. Small goals no doubt, but this is not just for my physical health, it is for my mental health as well. I do not want another five years to go by and I am still stuck in the same place, wondering why life has passed me by, hard.

I have to make the change for me. No one else can do it but me.
